Jenni Epperson: Things I Learned From Madonna →
No matter what lifestage, we owe it to ourselves to be the best we can be.
jenniepperson:
I’m in Cebu right now. Trying to relax and getting some work done too.
While looking for some serenity in my life, an earthquake rocked the Southern part of the Philippines (I’m OK. Where I’m at, I hardly felt it) and Madonna just rocked Superbowl XLVI!
I guess no matter where I am, what I’m…

What I learned about Breastfeeding
I’ve been exclusively breastfeeding for 15months now. And although breastfeeding came easily to me, it still came with quite a few challenges especially when it came to sustaining breastfeeding. So this is what I learned:
1. Mum has to be determined.
As Yoda said, “you do or you do not, there is no try.” I am saddened by the thought that many mums try breastfeeding but they...

Caterpillar Ride
It’s been almost two months since Miguel’s surgery. And it’s been a caterpillar ride of emotions —- not exactly a rollercoaster so caterpillar lang. :D
We found out that Miguel needed surgery last August a few days before his birthday. Between that time til the day of his surgery last October 4, I had been in shock, in denial, afraid of making the wrong decision for my...

Sleepless? →
Funny how I just realized I haven’t had a full night’s sleep since I got pregnant and then I come across this.

What are the odds
1 in 5,000.
Imperforate anus occurs in 1 out of 5,000 births. Why is this relevant? My son is that 1 in 5,000. Last month we discovered Miguel has a Imperforate Anus with Recto-Perineal Fistula. It sort of means he was born with a misplaced anal opening.
Why didn’t we know it right away? Actually my husband noticed that he seemed not to have a perineum or at least hardly any...

Yaya-less
We don’t have a yaya (nanny). Fortunately, my aunt is there to take care of my son when we’re at work. But this is what I’ve learned so far…
It’s actually possible. It can be physically tiring at times especially when your baby becomes more active but I also think it just means you get more exercise.
It’s extra bonding time with baby. My evenings and...

Beware the Purple Dinosaur. Not talking about Barney, but the Leap Frog Lettersaurus. Makers say they were prioritizing the X sound in choosing the word. Still doesn’t make sense to me.

My Easy Baby
Miguel turned one today. As they say, time flew so quickly especially when you have what they would call an ‘easy baby.’
I never had difficulty breastfeeding. He latched very well from the very beginning. No nipple soreness whatsoever.
He started sleeping through the night at 3 months! Sure there were a couple of weeks when he would be awake from 3am til the sun came out but that...

New Mum Syndrome
I can’t wait to get home after work during the weekdays. I feel really bad when Miguel’s fallen asleep before I get home. I’d rather be with Miguel than catch the latest movie. I’d rather bring Miguel with me whenever I go out of the house than leave him with my parents even if it’s just a quick trip to the supermarket. And when I do go out without Miguel, I feel...

Where is the love?
I read somewhere that love for one’s baby started in the womb. Me? I was too busy vomitting my guts out. So when I gave birth to Miguel and the doctor put this baby on my abdomen, my first thought bubble had been “where did he come from?”
When he was brought to my room, my instinct was to start recalling what was taught in the breastfeeding seminar as if I were going into a...

Small Acts
I didn’t like the beach as a child. I didn’t like the feel of sand on my feet. I didn’t like the sand getting into my swimsuit! I never had success making sand castles like the ones I saw on TV. And I didn’t like salt water — the way it tasted and the way it stung my eyes.
Then in 1997, my HS friends invited me to go to Boracay. It was then that I rediscovered...

Me? A Momma?
You’d think at 37 I’d be ready. After all, it took me 10 years to get married. I was barely getting used to the idea of being a wife. Imagine my surprise when a month after the wedding, I found out I was going to be a mommy. Funny how I felt like a teenaged girl and didn’t know how to tell my parents that I was pregnant!
When people asked if I was excited, my honest answer was...
